What is Passion?
An extreme, compelling emotion; intense emotional drive or boundless enthusiasm; strong love or affection; the object of any strong desire or fondness...
Webster's New World Dictionary
Second College Edition
Passion is not a death sentence.
What is Acting?
Acting is engaging your imagination to the point where you can sensually believe the circumstances given to you in a script. With trust in the circumstances , you can begin to viscerally understand (that is, in the body rather then the mind) the motivations of a character and bring life to it without effort or artifice.
An actor's job is to make the story real to himself and to the audience.
Acting is not international diplomacy.
What is the course?
Just as a dancer takes classes throughout their career, actors, no matter how experienced, should always be involved in a setting where they can continue to hone their craft. The class is predominantly scene study, with some exercises designed to encourage actors to access and engage their imagination and to gain a sensual connection with the circumstances of the script.
This class is not nuclear physics.
What are the Dreary Details?
The Classes are for actors of all levels and are on-going. They meet in Hollywood, CA, once a week, four times month. Auditing is allowed, but it is requested that the auditor make an appointment and meet with Geoff for at least 15 minutes before attending the class.
The cost of the class is $150 per month paid in full at the beginning of each month.
Geoff also offers private coaching, the fees for which are negotiable.
You are not required to be angst-ridden.
Who is the Acting Coach?
Geoff Hoff has studied under Bob and Joan Welch at the Interplayers Ensemble, Matt Chait, and Harry Mastrogeorge. He has been an actor, a director, and a writer and has been involved in the creation of three acting companies. Of acting in L.A., Geoff says, "Let's move beyond the culture of the showcase mentality and rediscover our natural ability to tell stories fully and with depth and passion." In other words, do the play to tell the story; not to get the next part. You'll probably have a better chance of getting the next part that way, anyway.
Geoff is not a brain surgeon.
